NMLS CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES YOU NEED FOR DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
District of Columbia mortgage loan originators, licensed under the DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking, must complete a total of 8 hours of NMLS-approved continuing education each year:
- 8-Hour Federal CE Course (covers 3 hours federal law, 2 hours ethics, 2 hours non-traditional lending)
- 1-Hour District of Columbia State-Specific Course
All hours must be completed by December 31 each year. We recommend finishing by December 5 to ensure your completion is reported to NMLS before the renewal deadline.

NMLS PRE-LICENSING EDUCATION COURSES YOU NEED FOR DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
New District of Columbia MLOs must complete 20 hours of NMLS-approved pre-licensure education before obtaining a license:
- 3 hours of federal law
- 3 hours of ethics, including fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending
- 2 hours of non-traditional mortgage lending
- 3 hours of District of Columbia-specific law
- 9 hours of electives
